A BIT ABOUT THERAPY

Guiding You On the Path of Self-Healing

I welcome your courage in sharing your challenges with me and believe that we can work together using evidence-based therapy to create change. Our relationship matters to me and I will check in with you frequently about our work. I bring respect, empathy, humor, and authenticity (I'm a real person!) to the therapy room. I often work with OCD, anxiety, substance use, shame, perfectionism, body image, eating issues, depression, trauma/PTSD, relationship issues and parenting. I am an experienced IFS and AEDP therapist. I also use mindfulness, ACT, CBT and DBT heavily in my practice. I am a certified and experienced couples' therapist.

I draw on evolutionary psychology to understand how our feelings (e.g., anxiety, fear, anger, joy) evolved to protect us and push us to take survival-oriented actions that we may or may not want to take. I use mindfulness to help us gain awareness of feelings and make new choices when needed. I am part-time faculty at Harvard Medical School, where I trained.

I often work with adult professionals, parents, young adults and college students. I enjoy meditating and spending time in nature — rock-climbing, hiking and cycling. I grew up in Europe in a diverse family and bring a multicultural sensitivity to therapy.

MY STORY

I am a licensed psychologist. I have been described as an empathic therapist who brings warmth, respect and humor to  the therapy room. I believe deeply in the power of compassionate human connection to heal and work with clients to help them identify and meet their unique goals. This often involves increasing clients’ self-awareness, self-acceptance and self-compassion; for some, to help them see that they have values and a self that is more than the sum of their past experiences. As trust is a critical foundation of the therapeutic relationship, I actively seek feedback from clients as to their experience of their work together.

I have extensive experience in treating addiction, traumatic stress, depression, anxiety and other psychological challenges that hold clients back from being fully present and experiencing their lives as they would like to. I am an integrative therapist, making use of many different techniques from diverse therapies depending on the client’s needs and preferences, ranging from acceptance- and mindfulness-based therapies including Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) to more experiential emotion-focused therapies including Internal Family Systems (IFS) and Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Therapy (AEDP).

I am part-time faculty at Harvard Medical School in the Department of Psychiatry. I completed my clinical psychology internship at VA Boston Healthcare System in the areas of addiction and PTSD treatment, and completed a postdoctoral fellowship in trauma treatment at Harvard Medical School/Cambridge Health Alliance. I have an undergraduate degree from Princeton University, law degrees from the University of Chicago and Harvard Law School, and my Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the University of Massachusetts Boston. Prior to entering the field of psychology, I worked as a teacher and lawyer primarily focused on asylum and human rights.

I grew up both in France and the Boston area. I speak French and Spanish. In my free time, I enjoy meditation, rock-climbing, cycling, hiking, as well as spending time in nature and with my family.
